U.S. Space Command Relocating to Huntsville

Q: What exactly is happening with Space Command?
On September 2, 2025, President Trump revealed that the U.S. Space Command headquarters will be relocated from Colorado Springs to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. This reverses a prior Biden administration decision to keep it in Colorado.

Q: What does this mean for jobs and the local economy?
About 1,400 new Space Command jobs are expected to move to Huntsville over the next five years. This will bring significant federal investment and likely stimulate growth in related industries.

Q: How quickly will this relocation happen and what happens next?
A local representative estimated the construction of a secure headquarters could take around 14 to 18 months to complete.

Q4: What impact could this have on housing and infrastructure in Madison?
With new job growth comes increased housing demand. Madison behind Huntsville could see rising home prices, more residential development and heightened interest in walkable, amenity-rich neighborhoods. Infrastructure... like roads, utilities and public services may need expansion or upgrades to keep pace.

Q: What does this mean for Madison residents and local businesses?
This move places Madison squarely in the orbit of Huntsville’s aerospace and defense expansion. Local businesses might benefit from increased demand from construction supply to hospitality, retail, real estate and professional services. It’s also an opportunity for community planning around growth, workforce housing and public amenities.

The Flour Elise... A Madison Cottage Peanut Free Bakery

If you've ever strolled through the Copperfield subdivision on County Line Road and caught a whiff of something sweet in the air, chances are, you're near The Flour Elise. This small, home-based bakery is run by Krista McDowell and let us tell you... her cakes and cookies are just as delightful as she is.

Krista's been baking nearly her whole life. “I’m a third-generation baker,” she says proudly. “My grandma, my aunt and now me.” Her love for baking started early and hasn’t slowed down... now she’s sharing that joy with families all over Madison. From custom birthday cakes and iced sugar cookies to those nostalgic Southern classics you grew up on. Krista bakes with heart, heritage and a whole lot of butter.

After moving to Madison in 2012 with her parents, Krista fell in love with the area's peaceful vibe and natural beauty. “I met my husband here,” she says, “so it just felt right to stay and build something of my own.” And build she did... right from her own kitchen.

It’s not just the flavor (though we’ve heard rave reviews about her light, not-too-sweet buttercream)... it’s how Krista runs her business. Every order is personal. Every customer is treated like a neighbor. This ain't big retail, you’re ordering from someone who genuinely loves what she does and puts that love into every bite.

You won’t find big email campaigns or flashy promotions. Krista relies on referrals, social media and happy customers sharing her name around town... and honestly, that’s the kind of word-of-mouth we trust most.

In a world of pre-packaged everything, it’s refreshing to know someone local is still whipping up buttercream by hand, remembering your favorite flavors, and celebrating your family’s milestones right alongside you.

If you ask us, The Flour Elise is the kind of small business that makes Madison feel like home.
