Alabama’s State Grocery Tax Holiday Is Now in Effect

Alabama has temporarily suspended the state portion of sales and use taxes on food from May 1 through June 30, 2026. Madison shoppers should still expect city and county grocery taxes to apply, but the state share should not be charged during the suspension period. Small grocers and food retailers should also make sure their point-of-sale systems are handling the temporary change correctly. [Read More]

FTC Warns Social Media Scams Are Now a Major Source of Fraud Losses

The FTC says nearly 30% of people who reported losing money to a scam in 2025 said the scam started on social media, with reported losses reaching $2.1 billion. The most common risks include fake shopping ads, investment pitches, romance scams and hacked-account schemes. Madison residents should be cautious with unfamiliar online sellers, investment groups and urgent money requests that start on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or similar platforms. [Read More]

I used to baby this plant every day. Now it is grown and only communicates by dropping leaves on the floor like passive aggressive text messages.

Huntsville International is a solid airport. Easy parking, quick security and you can be at your gate without turning it into an all day event. It also has a real set of nonstop options, including...

CO/OP Community Table

There are restaurants that feel like a destination and CO/OP is one of them. They lean into the cooperative idea on purpose: bring people together, source locally when possible and keep the menu seasonal so it stays interesting.

This is a “settle in” kind of place. You have a main dining room designed around shared conversation plus a big covered patio with views of Big Spring Park and a fireplace for cooler evenings. It works for date night, a friend dinner, or a slow brunch where nobody is in a rush.

The menu is Southern at heart but polished up in a way that still feels familiar. A few anchors that give you the idea...

    • Shrimp and grits
    • CO/OP burger with comeback sauce
    • Housemade pimento cheese
    • Crispy brussels sprouts with hot honey
    • Brioche French toast for brunch days

The most common feedback is that it feels elevated without feeling stuffy and that the staff is good at guiding you if you are not sure what to pick.

If you like timing things right, they call out Happy Hour from 5pm to 6pm daily and a Thursday wine flight special.

Lunch: Mon to Fri 11am to 3pm
Brunch: Sat and Sun 11am to 3pm
Dinner: Daily 5pm to 10pm

Where Was This When Our Kids Were Toddlers!

My other half was super excited about yesterday's plant show. So she asked me if I had a wagon and even though I said yes, she went and got this anyway 🙄. I think she was reminiscing over a fold up crib we had years ago. But this folds up just like it. I think it has a 400lb capacity, extra support from mesh that extends upward and built in pockets. It's a beast. It's definitely gonna be buggy we take when we travel. I definitely  recommend this, I could tell by my wife's smile when she set it up.
