Madison officials are considering implementing a cap of 190 Airbnbs in response to neighborhood concerns about property values, safety and noise.

This proposed ordinance aims to regulate short-term rentals by requiring permits and inspections for hosts.

Supporters believe it will help maintain the residential character of neighborhoods, while opponents argue it could limit property rights.

New Alabama fish consumption advisories are out

ADPH issued its 2026 Fish Consumption Advisories on June 16. For Madison County families who fish locally or travel to North Alabama lakes and rivers, this is a reminder to check the advisory before eating self-caught fish, especially for children, pregnant women and frequent anglers. The advisory is not a warning to stop fishing; it is a guide for which fish from which waters should be limited or avoided. [Read More]

Measles outbreaks remain a national concern for summer travel

CDC’s June 18 update reported 2,104 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. in 2026, with cases reported across many jurisdictions. Alabama was not listed among the 2026 jurisdictions in that update, but Madison families traveling this summer should still check vaccination status, especially before airports, camps, cruises or large events. Measles spreads easily, and CDC’s numbers make this a practical travel-prep item rather than a local alarm. [Read More]

Favorite Summer Trips From North Alabama

Q: Where do families from Madison go when they want a beach trip?
Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Destin, 30A and Panama City Beach are common picks.

Q: Where can you go for a quick mountain weekend?
Mentone, DeSoto State Park, Chattanooga or the Smoky Mountains. Mentone is quieter. Chattanooga gives you more activities. The Smokies are the bigger summer road trip.

Q: What is a good trip if you do not want to drive far?
Lake Guntersville is hard to beat. It is close, scenic and easy to turn into a weekend reset without overplanning.

Local note: The best summer trip is the one your family will actually take. A beach week is great, but a simple lake weekend, mountain cabin or Chattanooga overnight can still give everyone a break from the routine.

Lyli Viet Thai Cuisine

A solid pick for y'all who want a warm bowl of pho right here in town. The restaurant is now listed as Lyli Viet Thai Cuisine longtime pho fans may already know the location under its former name... Pho-Mous.

The menu has Vietnamese favorites with a few Thai and broader Asian comfort dishes worked in. Pho is the main dish, with options like steak pho, chicken pho, steak and brisket pho and the Pho-Mous Special with steak, brisket, meatball, tendon and tripe. They also offer spring rolls, egg rolls, banh mi, vermicelli bowls, rice plates, clay pot dishes, stir-fried dishes, fried rice, vegetarian items and kids options.

Order a steak pho or steak and brisket pho with spring rolls on the side. If you want something outside the of noodles and soup, try a grilled pork banh mi or a clay pot dish. Online delivery menus show steak pho and the Pho-Mous Special among the featured items that are available.

Pho works best on a cold days but the next best time is on a rainy day. Great after work or any night when dinner needs to feel comforting without getting too fancy. Expect casual service, familiar prices and a menu that gives regulars plenty of room to come back and try something different.
