Stay Sun Safe This Summer

Q: What SPF level should I really be using?
Dermatologists recommend SPF 30 or higher for daily use. SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays. If you’re out longer than 2 hours or sweating/swimming, reapply every 80 minutes, even if it’s “water-resistant.”

Q: Can I still get sunburned if I’m in the shade or it’s cloudy?
Yes! Up to 80% of UV rays can penetrate clouds, and reflective surfaces like water, sand, and concrete bounce rays back onto your skin. Shade helps, but it’s not full protection... keep the SPF on even under umbrellas or trees.

Q: Should I be worried about chemicals in sunscreen?
It depends. Chemical sunscreens (like those with oxybenzone or avobenzone) absorb UV rays and are effective, but some people prefer mineral options (with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide), which sit on the skin and deflect rays. For kids, sensitive skin, or reef-safe concerns, mineral sunscreens are a solid bet.

If you are heading out to Hawaii, be sure to get reef-safe sunscreen.

Living in the South means warm nights, thick woods, and plenty of crazy critters... and that's exactly why a UV flashlight might be your new favorite gadget. These pocket-sized lights reveal more than meets the eye, especially when it comes to bioluminescence and hidden pests.

Ever wanted to see scorpions before you step too close? UV flashlights make their exoskeletons glow under the beam, a neat trick that’s also super practical for late-night yard checks. And if you love nature walks, you'll be amazed by glowing lichens, fungi and even certain minerals along trails and creeks. It's amazing!

Plus, UV flashlights are handy around the house... detecting pet messes, checking for mold or ensuring your hotel sheets are actually clean while traveling.

Whether you're a nature fanatic or just want to keep your porch scorpion-free, a UV flashlight is a fun, functional addition to your home or purse.

Own a flashlight that can expose both wildlife and questionable housekeeping 🤣
