Big John's BBQ |
Big John's offers a diverse menu that caters to all barbecue enthusiasts. From St. Louis-style ribs and pulled pork and brisket, each dish is prepared with a commitment to quality and flavor.
Their "Smokafied" wings, available in flavors like lemon pepper and honey sriracha, are a crowd favorite. Don't miss out on their loaded fries, such as the "Philly Fries" topped with seasoned steak, sautéed onions, peppers, and queso cheese.
For those with a sweet tooth, "Laura's Way" desserts provide the perfect ending to a hearty meal. From lemon velvet cake to other Southern-inspired treats, these confections are crafted with the same dedication as their savory counterparts.
I believe you can find them on the Redstone Arsenal but if you don't have access, you can find them at The Open Bottle.

Why Are There So Many Fireworks Warehouses in the South? |
You've probably seen these massive fireworks warehouses with neon signs promising “Buy One, Get Five Free!" in Alabama, Tennessee and maybe even Georgia. We have a warehouse right here in Madison. But the funny thing is... fireworks aren’t even legal to use within city limits.
So… what’s the deal?
It all comes down to a quirky mix of state vs. local laws. Alabama is a fireworks-friendly state, meaning the sale of consumer-grade fireworks is perfectly legal. However, cities like Madison and Huntsville have ordinances banning their use within city limits... largely due to fire hazards, noise complaints, and public safety concerns.
That means you can absolutely buy a trunk full of bottle rockets, Roman candles, and mortars… but unless you’re out in the country or unincorporated areas, you technically can’t light them up in your own backyard if you live in town.
Still, the fireworks business thrives here. Why? Because:
It’s a little slice of Southern life: the freedom to buy, the choice to comply, and the ongoing debate every July about whether that pop you just heard is a firecracker, thunder or the Army blowing up stuff.
