Cathedral Caverns: A Natural Marvel Nearby

Just under an hour’s drive from Madison lies one of Alabama’s most jaw-dropping natural wonders... Cathedral Caverns State Park.

Originally known as "Bat Cave," this subterranean spectacle lives up to its name with a dramatic entrance measuring 126 feet wide and 25 feet high... one of the largest commercial cave entrances in the world!

Inside, you’ll find some of nature’s most jaw-dropping formations, including the famed Goliath, a stalagmite that towers at 45 feet tall and 243 feet in circumference... making it one of the largest in the world.

The cave's cathedral-like chambers feature flowstones, “frozen”

waterfalls, and a mysterious formation known as the â€śMystery River”, which flows through the cave with no clearly known source or outlet.

Originally opened to the public in the 1950s and designated a state park in 2000, Cathedral Caverns offers year-round guided tours in cool, 60-degree temperatures... making it a perfect summer day trip for families, nature lovers, and anyone looking to escape the heat.

If you haven’t been yet, it’s well worth adding to your summer bucket list!
